From Oct 10, 2020 to Oct 23, 2022, the Vietnamese community organized a fundraising to raise funds for the victims of the Fiona hurricane. The event has been led by VPABC, which has been trusted by 8 organizations which are the Vietnamese Canadian Senior Society of Great Vancouver, the Vietnamese Air Force Association in BC, the Vietnamese Veterans in BC, the Vietnamses Martial Art in Vancouver, the Vietnamese Cutural Heritage Association in Surey, Friendship Association in the Mekong Delta, Lac Viet radio and Viet BC radio. We made a donation via the Canadian Red Cross in the amount of $11100. Through a match from the Government of Canada, the amount is double. The Vietnamese Community in BC would like to express its deepest gratitude for your donation.

As a group leader, I am committed to create an amazing team that empowers each other while working for a very meaningful cause — supporting Vietnamese students’ career paths!

Term:  2 years (renewal option is possible)

Salary:  None, as it is a volunteer position. There is a potential stipend in the future as the foundation grows.

Every year, more than 3,400 children are born with CLP in Vietnam. The annual total is almost six times that of the Canadian total. Because CLP is a treatable medical condition, Planet Smile for Kids in partnership with SmileTrain will be going back to the National Hospital for Odonto-Stomatology (NHOS) in Ho Chi Minh, Vietnam to provide education for parents and training for dental and medical professionals caring for children with CLP. With your support, we will share and spread knowledge so the treatment of CLP can proliferate beyond Ho Chi Minh City.

Congratulations to Steven Ngo – Chair, VPABC Advocacy Committee on his significant achievement for the relentless strive to help end racism. On Thursday, March 24th, 2022, he was awarded the Medal of Good Citizenship from the Province of BC. This is one of the highest honours bestowed to British Columbians and is in recognition for his efforts during the pandemic to combat anti-Asian hate.

Steven stated: “This is a collective effort by our entire community. I want to do a special call-out to Que-Tran, President of VPABC, The radio team, The BOD, and Thuy to connect our advocacy committee with the right people within government. These efforts led to many meetings with the Vancouver Police Board, BC RCMP, Minister of Justice, the Minister of Public Safety and Solicitor General, US Consulate General and many other organizations. VPABC’s name was everywhere and anywhere.”
